WHAT IS A TECHNICAL ALIGNMENT MANAGER? (and why do you need one?)
Happy April! Today, let’s explore one of the most important roles at Bacheler Technologies: The Technical Alignment Manager (or TAM, for short)!
While all of our employees contribute directly to improved business results for our clients, our TAMs might be the most critical piece. The TAM has one, and only one, focus: ensuring that every piece of your technology environment stays in alignment with specific standards that are customized to your business. Our TAMs have four primary responsibilities/attributes:
Technical Expertise: A BT Technical Alignment Manager has a strong technical background, allowing them to understand every facet of your technology environment’s implications on your business. He/she builds a deep understanding of your organization's technical infrastructure, architecture, and systems, and monitors it all with dogged attention to detail.
Standards: The TAM is responsible for implementing and enforcing a library of standards and checkpoints that are specifically catered to the technological operations of each client. These standards range from hardware life cycles to backup performance to Line of Business applications. Each standard area has associated checkpoints (for example, under the “Desktop/Laptop” standard, the TAM will constantly evaluate every computer in a client’s ownership to ensure its performance, reliability, and whether its software and security applications are up to date). Enforcement of these standards mitigate the risks for failure, security incidents, and loss of productivity!
Documentation: A TAM’s documentation process creates, maintains, and updates literature that describes the various components, systems, and processes of an organization's technology infrastructure. This process provides consistency and standardization for your hardware, software, and networking capabilities, allows every member of the BT team to immediately find critical information needed for quick error resolution, and ensures compliance with regulatory/security requirements.
Continuous Improvement: Finally, a Technical Alignment Manager is responsible for continuous improvement of a client’s technical solutions. The TAM works closely with our engineering teams and client employees to identify areas for improvement, develop and implement new processes, and ensure that clients’ technology and systems continue to best support the organization’s needs and objectives.
The Technical Alignment Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that your technical environment aligns with your overall business objectives and goals – and insulates your employees from scenarios where they are negatively impacted by technical performance. By investing in our TAM team and standards library, organizations can ensure that their technology investments provide the best ROI and keep daily operations as efficient as possible.
